Take a Canal Boat Tour. Canal boats offer fun canal cruises through the capital, something every kid will surely enjoy. There are theme tours available, including a canal pizza cruise in which pizza is delivered to the tourists about halfway through the cruise, as well as ice cream for dessert. Canal boat tours last about an hour, and is something that both parents and kids will enjoy.

Vondelpark. Amsterdam’s most famous park offers kids lots of things to see and do. There’s a playground, a small pool for wading, a small kids café where kids can prepare food, and even Friday skate night parties. Free concerts also take place here.

Rent a Bakfiets. Bicycles are the default choice of transportation in Amsterdam. A bakfiet is a bike that includes a large area in the front for kids to ride in comfortably. Since there are lots of bike lanes in Amsterdam, this is a great way for parents to tote their kids around when going from one place to another.

Go to the Artis Royal Zoo. While the zoo is old, as it was opened in 1835, the setting of the zoo is beautiful with all of its impressive gardens. Animals include giraffes, zebras, wildebeests. Exhibits include an aquarium, a planetarium, and a butterfly pavilion. There is also a playground for kids to play on, as well as plenty of inside activities for kids to partake in case of rainy weather.

Visit Nemo – Amsterdam’s Science Museum. Kids who are at least 6 years of age will enjoy visiting this educational and interactive science museum. Parents should plan on spending about half a day here. The sloping roof n top of the building offers some of the best panoramic views of the capital, which is why in the summertime it’s transformed into a beach area.

Book a Food Tour. All kids love food, making taking a food tour a great idea. Food tours are a great way for kids to learn more about the food choices available, as well as some where food comes from. This cultural food tour allows kids to sample a variety of foods Amsterdam is famous for, including chocolate, cheese, and pancakes.
